Es wird gezeigt, wie mit dem Verfahren GABEK das verteilte Erfahrungswissen vieler Personen durch semantische Netze dargestellt werden kann. Themen, die in Interviews angesprochen wurden, sind Knoten im Netz, die Kanten sind durch Texte hinterlegt, in denen die Themen miteinander in Zusammenhang stehen. Eine Methode der Komplexitätsreduktion wird vorgetellt. GABEK-Netze dienen – in hoher Komplexität – dem Auffinden innovativer Ideen und – in reduzierter Komplexität – der Übersicht über das gesamte Wissensgebiet oder der Analyse von Begriffen, der Formulierung allgemeiner Prinzipien und der Rekonstruktion von begrifflichen Ontologien.

Die Grundform des Lernens ist das Gespräch. Dies gilt sowohl für den Einzelnen als auch für Organisationen. Sowohl einzelne Personen als auch Institutionen lernen lebenslang durch Interaktionen mit anderen Personen und Organisationen. Dabei geht es für die lernende Person oder Organisation um ein erfolgreiches Abstimmen der eigenen Weltsicht, der eigenen Ziele und Handlungsoptionen mit der sozialen Umgebung. Wenn es aber aufgrund der Vielfalt der Meinungen und der Komplexität der Situation nicht möglich ist, Gespräche mit allen Personen zu führen, die einschlägige Erfahrung haben, so können Texte als Grundlage für das Lernen herangezogen werden. GABEK bietet als Verfahren der Textanalyse eine Reihe von Tools, die das Lernen unterstützen. Sofern die Texte die Meinung von Mitgliedern der Organisation ausdrücken, kann GABEK zu einer Reorganisation interner Abläufe der Organisation führen. Wenn sie im Umfeld der Organisation erhoben wurden, kann eine verbesserte Abstimmung mit Kunden, Lieferanten oder mit sozialen Institutionen der Umgebung erreicht werden.

The fundamental form of learning is the dialogue. This applies to individuals as well as to organizationsthat learn through interactions with other individuals or organizations. In this process, they have to modify their own worldview, their goals and options of action to the social sourrounding. However, if a direct communication is not possible with enough experienced individuals, due to the complexity of the situation or the variety of opinions, texts are used as a basis of learning.
GABEK offers a series of tools for the analysis of texts that support learning processes. If the verbal data origins fom participants of the organization, GABEK can lead to the reorganization of internal processes. If the data were gathered in the social environment of an organization, improvements of the relations to customers, suppliers or to social institutions can be achieved.

Stages of the GABEK-Learning-Process

Wie bei anderen qualitativen Forschungsmethoden beginnen auch GABEK-Projekte mit der Erhebung verbaler Daten, meistens durch offene Interviews. Wenn Interviews innerhalb einer Organisation durchgeführt werden, führen sie bereits zu ersten internen Gesprächen über die gegebene Situation.

Daraus wird mit GABEK durch semantische Netze eine Art regionale Ontologie der Gruppe dargestellt, von der die Texte stammen. Sie dient zur Reflexion über die weitgehend stabilen Überzeugungen und Einstellungen, die von veränderlichen und situationsabhängen Meinungen unterschieden werden. Da die Ontologie einer Gruppe nur schwer und langsam veränderlich ist, kann sie zur Orientierung in der Mannigfaltigkeit der Meinungen dienen.

In einem weiteren Schritt werden die Werturteile analysiert, die in den Texten zum Ausdruck kommen. Damit können Grundwerte, Ziele und Wünsche der untersuchten Gruppe erkannt werden. Durch Verknüpfung der Werturteile mit erweiterten Netzwerkgraphiken werden Erfolgsgebiete und Problemfelder identifiziert, wie sie die befragten Personen sehen. Es handelt sich um mehr detailreiche Übersichten, die wie Landkarten den betroffenen Personen dienen können, Schwerpunkte für eine zukünftige Entwicklung festzulegen. In einem Feedbackworkshop können damit Entscheidungsträger der Organisation mögliche strategische Schwerpunkte sichten.

Daraufhin werden die Vorschläge analysiert, die in den verbalen Daten als mögliche Maßnahmen zur Realisierung von Schwerpunkten zum Ausdruck kommen. In einem weiteren Workshop, dem Umsetzungsworkshop, werden konkrete Maßnahmen gewählt, die realisierbar sind, die nicht zu teuer sind und die von den Entscheidungsträgern bevorzugt werden. Auch ein solcher Workshop führt wieder zu Gesprächen über die Umsetzung. Damit kann die Bereitschaft zur Zustimmung und zur Mitarbeit bei der Umsetzung erhöht werden.

Für den Fall, dass sich Konflikte zeigen, die eine Zusammenarbeit lähmen könnten, werden die verbalen Daten der Konfliktgruppen getrennt logisch hierarchisch systematisiert, so dass die gegensätzlichen Positionen besser verstanden werden können. Da die Konfliktgruppen oft nicht miteinander in Dialog treten wollen oder können, bietet GABEK ein Tool zur Simulation von Gesprächen. Sie kann zu möglichen Lösungsvorschlägen führen, welche den Konfliktpartnern akzeptierbar erscheinen.

Schließlich wird das Lernen in Organisationen durch Schritte der Kontrolle abgeschlossen. Sie zeigen, was bei der Umsetzung gut und was weniger gut gelaufen ist. Dafür werden mit GABEK wieder spezielle Tools zur Evaluierung aber auch zum ständigen Monitoring des Entwicklungsprozesses angeboten

Jeder Schritt der Auswertung ist insofern ganzheitlich, als immer die gesamte Datenbasis betrachtet wird. Damit kann jeder Betroffene seine eigenen Meinungen immer wieder zu den Überzeugungen anderer Personen in Beziehung setzen. GABEK erlaubt eine tiefgehende Auswertung von Texten, die einer indirekten Form von Gesprächen mit den Autoren der Texte nahekommt.

As in other methods of qualitative research, most GABEK-projects start with gathering verbal data using open interviews. Interviews within an organization can already initiate internal dialogues on the given situation.

Based on the analysis of the interview texts, semantic nets are constructed, which represent a kind of conceptual ontology of the referring group. The ontology is used as reflection of stable convictions and attitudes, which must be discerned from variable and contingent opinions dependent on the situation. As the ontology of a social group changes slowly, it can be used for an orientation about the variety of opinions.

In the next step, evaluative judgements expressed within the texts are analyzed. Thereby fundamental values, aims and whishes of social groups can be identified. By connecting the evaluative judgments with extended network graphs, researchers can identify areas of success and problem as perceived by the respondents. Such graphs are more detailed overviews than the ontologies. They are used by the individuals concerned to determine the direction of future developments. In a feedback workshop, decision makers can define possible core goals for the organization using such maps.

Thereupon possible measures proposed by the respondents are analyzed, which could support the realization of the core goals. Specific and feasible measures that are preferred by decision makers are selected in the implementation workshop,. This workshop again leads to dialogues, in particular about implementation processes. Thus, the acceptance of the participants and their willingness for cooperation in the implementation process is supported.

If conflicts between different social groups appear, the verbal data of the conflicting groups are analyzed separately in order to understand the positions of the conflicting groups. As such groups very often do not want or do not have the opportunity to enter a dialogue, GABEK offers a tool for the simulation of dialogues. This can lead to possible solutions, acceptable for the conflicting parties.

Finally, the learning process in organizations is concluded by steps of control. These show which operations were more or less successful. GABEK offers special tools for evaluation of the results and for a persistent monitoring of the implementation process.

In each stage of any GABEK-project, the whole verbal data base is included in the analysisprocess. Thus, we see GABEK as a holistic methodology. As a consequence, every concerned individual can detect his/her own opinions, however, he/she can also relate them to opinions and attitudes of other individuals. In this way, GABEK shows a way to an indirect form of dialogues between different authors and leads to deep views of the actual situation.

The problem

I presuppose we have lots of unsorted verbal data in colloquial language by employees of a complex social institution, by individuals of conflicting groups, or by clients of a company ect. and we want to understand the whole situation. Although we have the feeling to understand the individual statements we ask: which of the statements are relevant? Which are accepted by many persons? Which assumptions or pragmatical strategies and goals are held in the backgrounds of the verbal data?

Explanation

To understand assumptions, strategies or goals of an organisation, it is necessary to explain them on the basis of opinions, values, experiences or norms of the concerned individuals. Therefore we group the data base with software support through WinRelan® in text groups, which show how statements are interrelated with each other. Using texts of employees, clients, experts or other individuals we build small but meaningful text groups, which substantiate the assumptions or justify core strategies and goals. The text groups must be consistent, must express meaningful connections between the topics expressed and should be founded through experiences of the concerned individuals. In such a way – using GABEK (GAnzheitliche BEwältigung von Komplexität) as a method of knowledge organisation – unsorted verbal data are structured in order to get an overview on the total situation as well as special anwers of questions for details.

Understanding

However, this is not yet sufficient to understand also the complex situation as a whole. Sure, understanding presupposes to be able to explain details, but additionally it is necessary that the explained details can be set in a larger context. This means that decision makers should be able to point to a larger context for each statement or each decision they make, a context showing the surrounding, in which the statement is necessary and can be used for further patterns of explanation, orientation or action.

Linguistic gestalt building

In Analogy to the theory of perception of gestalten by Carl Stumpf a theory of linguistic gestalt building was developed with GABEK@. He defined perceptional gestalten as a kind of meaningful net between sensual data. We see linguistic gestalten as nets between statements. Linguistic gestalten are consistent text groups fulfilling particular formal and semantic rules. The statements are structured logically and hierarchically and build together a meaningful whole. The resulting gestaltentree is a holistic representation of the total situation – as far as verbal data are available, such, that all statements of the gestaltentree can be explained through textgroups (with exception of the verbal raw data) and all the statements can be seen within a wider context (with exception of the highest texts of the gestaltentree). The texts are structured logically and hierarchically to form a „Gestaltentree“.

Learning

The gestaltentree represents complex situations, as far, as there are verbal data available. Explications of partial texts give answer to the question for foundation or for argumentation (why you beleive that?), the widened context gives answer to the question for relevance (wherefore this is important and on which possible applications do you think?). Therefore the gestaltentree can be used for learning in an organisation. Decision makers are in the position to anwer questions for arguments and to communicate strategies in a transparent mode. Employees and those concerned can comprehend decisions and are likely ready to co-operate in the implementation process.

The lecture

gives a short overview on the GABEK-rules of gestalt-building.
Then the way to analyze verbal data in order to form a linguistic gestalten tree is presented.
Finally some examples of application of GABEK@ in praxis for problem solving, learning, organisation development etc. are discussed.

Das am Institut für Philosophie entwickelte Verfahren GABEK (Ganzheitliche Bewältigung von Komplexität) ist eine computerunterstützte Methode der Wissensorganisation. Ausgehend von offenen Interviews, Texten aus dem Internet oder anderen verbalen Daten werden individuelle Meinungen und Einstellungen vernetzt. Wissensnetze einer ausgewählten Gruppe oder einer Organisation können dargestellt und zur Steuerung von Entscheidungsprozessen verwendet werden.

GABEK wurde in der Praxis verwendet zur Innovationsforschung, Evaluierung, Organisationsentwicklung, Leitbildeentwicklung, zur Marktforschung, Konfliktlösung, Regionalentwicklung, zum Produktvergleich, Wissenstransfer usw.

Den TeilnehmerInnen wird ein kodiertes GABEK-Dokument und die Software WinRelan zur Verfügung gestellt, anhand derer sie die einzelnen Arbeitschritte durchführen können: Es werden die folgenden Themen behandelt:

Projektdesign, Datenerhebung durch offene Interviews, Transskription, Grundkodierung, Bildung von Begriffsnetzen und Ontologien, Bewertungskodierung, Feedbackworkshop zur Auswahl von Schwerpunkten, Kausalkodierung, Gestaltbildung, Umsetzungsworkshop zur Auswahl von Maßnahmen, Transfer der Ergebnisse, Verfassen des Projektberichts.

Die Lehrveranstaltung richtet sich vorwiegend an Studenten der Geistes- und Sozialwissenschaften die eine qualitativ orientierte Studie anstreben. Ihnen wird die Methode GABEK (Ganzheitliche Bewältigung von Komplexität) als Verfahren zur PC-unterstützten Auswertung von offenen Interviews oder anderer Texte angeboten. Mit der LV soll erreicht werden, daß die Teilnehmer die theoretischen Grundlagen von GABEK verstehen und das Verfahren anwenden können.

Inhalt:

Projektdesign, Durchführung von Interviews, theoretische Grundlagen von GABEK, Handhabung des Programms WinRelan, Präsentation von Projektergebnissen in Organisationen, Evaluierung von Prozessen und Produkten, Begriffsanalyse, Theoriebildung.

Abstract: “GABEK® (Ganzheitliche BEwältigung von Komplexität) is a method developed by Josef Zelger that allows for analyzing unordered linguistic texts in a way to receive a comprehensive view of their entity. The process of analyzing data is carried out through the development of a rule-based network of data, which takes both syntax and semantics into account. The text is collected and systematized by different procedures operated by the researchers. The computer implementation WinRelan®(Windows Relationen Analyse) supports the analysis of the qualitative data. Finally, the method allows a transparent organization of contents based on the language processing of the statements. Whereas most of the established computer assisted qualitative data analysis software for content analysis of text data (CAQDAS) allow to administer, browse, code, mark, complete, or categorize data, WinRelan® goes beyond these analysis steps insofar as it integrates the methodical procedure as well as quantitative elements such as cluster analysis known from multivariate data analysis. The advantage of GABEK is grounded in its accuracy and reliability generated through a rule-based framework. It provides tools for graphical representation of verbal data by linguistic networks at different levels of complexity. Founded on a theoretical basis it allows for the elaboration of individual problems as well as advancing to more abstract levels of analysis.

We want to use this session as platform for those who have already used GABEK®in their research in order to show new developments and tools in the software WinRelan®.”
