The philosophical foundations

Analysis, processing and presentation of knowledge

Univ. Prof. i.R. Dr. Josef Zelger at 9th International GABEK Symposium

The method developed by Univ.-Prof. Dr. Josef Zelger was based on philosophical concepts of understanding, explaining, learning and shape perception. The personal views of the respondents are superimposed and arranged by GABEK®.

The responsible development and use of knowledge systems is becoming increasingly important in our society. Knowledge processing, however, is increasingly automated by the use of information technologies and thus increasingly eludes the immediate control of humans. This makes comprehensive, holistic understanding difficult and encourages arbitrary decisions. In order to counter such developments, it is asked: How can one escape the technical structural constraints and estimate the trustworthiness and relevance of information? How can transparency be guaranteed? How can social organizations design conceptual knowledge systems and technical information essays so that the basic needs of those affected are better understood?

Explaining – Understanding – Learning

Explaining

In order to justify the priorities or objectives of an organisation, it is necessary to base them on the beliefs, values, experiences or norms of the persons concerned. explaining. Therefore, with GABEK, small meaningful text groups are first formed from the statements of employees, customers or exptertes, from which the focal points and goals follow logically. The text groups are non-contradictory, express meaningful connections and are based on the experiences of the persons concerned. With GABEK, disordered verbal data is structured in such a way that a decision-maker can justify and explain details of his decisions.

Understanding

However, this is not yet sufficient to address a complex situation. Understanding. The understanding presupposes the ability to explain details, but additionally requires that all explained details can be put into a larger context. This means that for each statement of a decision maker a further context can be specified, within which the statement is used in an applicable explanation, orientation or action pattern.

Learning

In analogy to the formation of shape in the process of perception, GABEK structures the available verbal data logically and hierarchically in the form of a “shape tree” so that all statements in the Shape tree from text groups (with the exception of the verbal raw data used) and can be understood (with the exception of the uppermost statements of the Gestalt tree). In this way, GABEK leads to an understanding of the overall situation. The Gestalt tree represents complex situations as they are explained and understood on the basis of the database. Explanations provide answers to the question of a justification (why do you believe this?), the extended context gives answers to the question of relevance (what is this important for you and what possible applications do you think of?).

Using the Gestalt tree, decision-makers and young employees of an organization can lernen. Decision-makers can answer questions about the why and why of possible decisions. This also enables them to communicate priorities and strategic decisions transparently. Employees or those affected can understand the decisions and are more willing to participate in the implementation. The Gestaltenbaum allows both a quick overview of the overall situation and special answers when questions are asked for details. As a knowledge base, disordered texts are initially used, usually from interviews that express experiences and evaluations of the affected persons.
